Design of a Tribo-Simulator for Investigation of the Tribological Behavior of Stainless-Steel Sheets Under Different Contact Conditions

In sheet metal forming (SMF), deformation is caused by the relative movement between and tool, which generates friction forces. However, materials behave differently during plastic deformation. this study, a tribo-simulator was designed to investigate effect of different contact conditions or formability tests on tribological behavior AISI 304 430 stainless-steel sheets. The effects texture microstructure sheets measured coefficients (COFs) changes that occurred tribosurfaces also were investigated. Roughness microhardness measurements, optical scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction used in analyses. successfully manufactured, repeatability COFs satisfactory (standard deviation ~0.02). A comparative analysis revealed differences COFs. bending under tension test, COF for ferritic steel 33% higher, while strip-tension austenitic 44% higher. Friction strongly influenced microstructural characteristics samples exhibited galling due severe adhesive wear.
